Making the Connection: the Service Learning Revolution
In 2012, I decided to make an educational film about community-based learning. The result was Making the Connection: The Service Learning Revolution, a documentary-style film focused on the students, community partners, and practitioners who work within their respective communities. The film examines experiential learning's impact in the learning process, as well as resultant community “impacts:" community and personal growth impact, career choice impact, civic engagement impact, social issues impact, career preparedness impact, and financial impact.
The film has been screened by Bowling Green State University, California State Monterey Bay, Cape Fear Community College, Howard Community College, Jackson State Community College, Kapioloni Community College, the Michigan Campus Compact, the Shriver Center at the University of Maryland Baltimore, the University of Nebraska Omaha, and the University of Wisconsin Eau-Clair for educating faculty about Service Learning. The film was also recommended for use in training faculty by Gail Schwartz, Senior Vice-President of Innovative Learning and Student Success at the American Association of Community Colleges.

Service Learning Advisory Board
From 2013 to the present, I have served on my university's Service Learning Advisory Board. Since I began using Service Learning as an educational strategy in 2008, I have given approximately 24 academic and professional presentations (in-person & virtually), published 3 journal articles, a book chapter, and a DVD about the benefits of Service Learning in the community. Service Learning in education creates community change agents, critical thinkers and individuals prepared for the workplace.
